In 1985, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service launched the Tread Lightly! program to address concerns about increasing vehicular activity and its impact on public and private lands. Tread Lightly! has developed into a non-profit organisation with links to dozens of other groups, including in the UK, The Green Lane Association.
Tread Lightly! is dedicated to promoting the fun and enjoyment of the outdoors and the responsibility that comes with it. Tread Lightly! is an ethical and educational force in bringing together and unifying a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including agencies, industry, media, conservation and enthusiast groups, and concerned individuals who share a common goal to find balance between humans and nature. Tread Lightly! promotes responsible outdoor recreation through ethics education and stewardship programs.
This course introduces the Tread Lightly! Principles that apply globally for any who want to adventure into nature in an ethical and sustainable way.
